How we research
Attribution, condition and provenance are reviewed before an object is added to the record.
Examination
Each object is examined in hand and photographed under consistent light. Coins are weighed and measured; comics are checked for completeness, staples and restoration; watches are reviewed for originality and service history.
Authentication
Where third-party certification exists, the certifier and certificate number are recorded against the object. Where it does not, the record states plainly that the object has been examined in-house, and the reasoning behind the attribution is kept on file.
Provenance
Known ownership history is summarised on every record. Supporting paperwork, when it accompanies an object, is retained as part of the collection record.
Condition
Condition is described honestly, including wear. Grades follow the conventions of each field so that comparisons with other collections remain meaningful.
